First medium depth divers trained

After years of waiting, consultation periods and a pandemic that left everything in standby mode, last August 2023 the legislation authorizing and regulating the training of second-class divers in the Basque Country was published in the BOPV (Basque Official Bulletin).

DECREE 116/2023, of 26 July, establishing the conditions for the authorization and control of underwater activities and new professional qualifications for the practice of professional diving in the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country, provides an alternative to public schools that until now have been unable to offer more than a limited second class or shallow diver course.

This qualification enables you to carry out the following activities:

1. Use autonomous diving equipment, surface supply with air, enriched air, wet bells, guides and any other system.
2. Conduct dives to a depth of 50/60 meters in accordance with the safety standards and limitations of the equipment used.
3. Carry out underwater work using established methods and procedures.
4. Participate in training activities as an assistant diver.
